Anya Emerson

Anya has over a decade of trial court and appellate experience, specializing in domestic violence and juvenile dependency law in both New York and California.  Now a solo practitioner focusing on state court appellate practice, Anya has previously worked as a staff attorney at the Family Violence Appellate Project and at the First District Appellate Project, where she represented survivors of domestic violence in family law appeals as well as parents and children in juvenile dependency appeals to the California Court of Appeal and the California Supreme Court.

Before moving to California, Anya worked as an Equal Justice Works Fellow and, later, as a Staff Attorney, at the New York Legal Assistance Group’s Family Law Unit and Appellate Representation Project, where she took on both trial and appellate domestic violence-related family law and matrimonial matters. A graduate of Stanford University and Columbia Law School, Anya served as an editor for the Human Rights Law Review and received the Dean’s Public Interest Fellowship. She later clerked for Judge Jack B. Weinstein, of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York.
