Jackson v. Queens Borough Public Library – Notice of Proposed Settlement of Class Action Lawsuit
Jackson, et al. v. Queens Borough Public Library, et al. Case No. 19-cv-6656-DG-ST (E.D.N.Y.)
A court authorized this notice. This is not a solicitation from a lawyer.
You might be a member of a proposed settlement class if:
- You have a mobility disability; and
- You visit, have visited, intend to visit, or have been deterred from visiting the Hunters Point Library branch of the Queens Borough Public Library because of its alleged inaccessibility.
Please Read
The purpose of this notice is to inform you about a proposed settlement agreement. The proposed agreement would settle a pending class action lawsuit brought against the Queens Borough Public Library, Board of Trustees of Queens Borough Public Library, and the City of New York arguing that the construction and design of the Hunters Point branch of the Queens Borough Public Library (“Library”) violates federal and local disability rights laws and discriminates against visitors with mobility disabilities.
In 2025, the Parties reached a settlement agreement in which Defendants agreed to remediate over one hundred of the Library’s accessibility barriers, including by:
- Providing stair-free access to two of its tiered landings along the north staircase;
- Providing wheelchair spaces in the children’s area and rooftop area; and
- Make the fifth floor ramp accessible by modifying it so that it is less steep.
This case did not seek any monetary relief for class members and no such claims are waived by the agreement. It is only for injunctive relief (access improvements).
Class members will be able to dial in to the October 9th fairness hearing at 12pm using the phone number 571-353-2301 and ID# 179933855.
