Tucker v. CA State Parks
People with Sensory and Mobility Disabilities Gain Equal Access to Visit and Enjoy California's State ParksIn 2005, DRA reached a landmark statewide class action settlement with the California State Park System. Under the settlement, the state park agency agreed to improve access to its system of over 250 different parks through comprehensive barrier removal.
The improvements include making a reasonable portion of the trail system accessible for people in wheelchairs, providing access to beaches and shores, providing accessible signage for blind and low vision park visitors, and providing captioned videos and sign language interpreters for park activities.
To date the California State Park System has allocated over $90,026,000 in funding for access improvements to over 65 parks and has completed a total of 73 accessible trail projects.
