Berkeley, CA—January 25th, 2017—Disability Rights Advocates (DRA), the leading national nonprofit disability rights legal center since 1993, has announced the selection of Andrew Mudryk as its new Executive Director. Andy will start with DRA on February 1st and fill the vacancy left by DRA’s Co-Founder, Larry Paradis, who passed away in July of 2016. The selection was made after a competitive national search and selection process.

“We are so pleased to announce Andy’s appointment,” reported Linda Dardarian, DRA’s Board Chair. “Andy brings decades of strong disability rights litigation and organizational leadership experience to DRA. Andy has a deep commitment to disability rights, and is a truly nice person. He is the right one to both lead and support DRA.”

Andy is a person with Osteogenesis Imperfecta, also known as “Brittle Bone Disorder” and he has devoted most of his 27 years as an attorney fighting for the rights of people with disabilities. Andy has more than 14 years’ leadership and management experience with nonprofit disability rights organizations and has handled more than 20 trials during his career in Michigan, Arizona, and California. Andy is a 1989 honors graduate of the George Washington University Law School in Washington, D.C. and served on the Board of Directors of the National Disability Rights Network. He was Chair of the Board of Directors of the Legal Aid Association of California and sat as a Governor appointee on the California State Rehabilitation Council. Prior to this appointment, Andy served as the Deputy Director at Disability Rights California (DRC), the largest legal services program in California.

“I am honored and humbled to be chosen for this position. I have tremendous respect for the ground-breaking class action and systemic litigation that DRA has undertaken, improving the lives of thousands of people with disabilities. I am thrilled to begin working with such talented and hard-working staff,” remarks Andy.

“For 25 years, Larry Paradis, one of the nation’s leading disability advocates, built DRA in order to provide quality representation for people with disabilities in all key areas of life” reflects Sid Wolinsky, DRA’s Co-Founder and Supervising Attorney. “Larry left behind an effective, high-functioning organization committed to carrying out his legacy. Given Andy’s years of leadership and organizational abilities, he is a perfect fit for DRA. With the arrival of Andy we are all looking forward to the next phase of providing groundbreaking legal solutions that will protect the civil rights and improve the daily lives of men, women and children with disabilities.”
