Health Care Access
DRA’s health care cases have been pivotal in securing equal rights to health care nationwide for people with disabilities. DRA has brought several of the leading cases against major health care providers such as Kaiser Permanente and Sutter Health to ensure that people with disabilities receive quality health care services.
Despite our successes, there are still many barriers to health care for people with disabilities. Too often people who use wheelchairs and scooters or have sensory disabilities fall through the cracks of the health care system because health care providers fail to understand the unique needs of people with disabilities.
The report: Ill-Prepared: Health Care’s Barriers for People with Disabilities, released in 2011 by The Equal Rights Center (ERC) shows that people with disabilities face more problems in accessing health care than other groups.
If you have experienced problems obtaining health care services or health insurance coverage because of your disability, please contact us at: firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject line: Health Care. All communications will be kept confidential.
